What Is A Window?

A Window is one type of opening in any wall of a house, door, ceiling, roof, which permits the entry of light, natural air, and sometimes sound. Windows are provided in-house to connect with nature. It allows the natural light, air, and sound in the room and it can also be used to control the entry of these factors by closing it. There are some standard window size used in construction.

Try to imagine a home without windows, and there is your answer. Yes, it is possible to live in a windowless bunker if you otherwise deal with the light, heat, ventilation, and psychological requirements for a connection with the outside world, but it is not necessarily as pleasant.

Windows are there for light, a view to the outside, ventilation, and fire egress. I do not know of any building department jurisdiction that doesn’t mandate windows for residences.

- They are profitable in the long run.

- A new window fit much better than an old window would and will cut down on any crevices that allow the heat to pass through.

- Windows have environmental benefits as they cut down on the use of energy coming from unsustainable sources.

- Windows provide better lighting. The better the quality of the window the better the light can pass through it.

- Windows make a home more comfortable due to the benefits offered by the above-mentioned factors.

- Windows help in slowing down the process of fading of the furniture as they block the harmful UV rays of the sun.

- Windows reduce condensation.

The main purpose of windows is to give a proper amount of air circulation and ventilation to the closed enclosure. Also, the size of the window depends upon the room and also the location of the room according to the wind direction follow in the plot region.

Secondly, it matters of choice, what kind of privacy you need to provide, ventilation required, and Daylight intake.

For example, If we will say about the bathrooms they should be small and above /equal to a showerhead.

There are no standard window sizes, one can choose window size according to his requirement, ceiling height, and purpose of opening.

1. Single & Double Hung Window Size

The single hung window also known as a sash window is easy to slide up and a popular choice for modern home construction. The top sash is fixed. Since it opens and closes without protuding, single-hung windows are an excellent choice for rooms facing walkways, porches, or patios.

Single & Double Hung Window Size

The standard size of a Single-hung window is ranged between a width of 24" to 36" and a height of 60" to 84".

2. Casement Window Standard Size

A casement window, it’s one type of movable window, wood or metal-framed, with hinges or pivots at the upright side of the vertically hung sash, so that it opens outward or inward along its entire length in the manner of a door. One frame, separately movable, of such a window, is called a casement sash.

The standard size of the casement window is ranged between 12" to 24" width by 24" to 84" height.

3. Sliding Window Size

A sliding window is a window that opens by sliding horizontally along a top and bottom track in the window frame. A two-panel or two-lite sliding window has one fixed panel of glass, and the other side is an operable sash that slides either left or right to open.

4. Sash Window Standard Size

A sash window is one with two frames that can both slide vertically, thus allowing for greater airflow. 5. Bay Window Standard Size

A bay window may be rectangular, polygonal, or arc-shaped . If the last, it may be called a bow window.
