Glass Wool Production Process
Glasswool is mainly made from sand and recycled glass. Its extraordinary thermal properties contribute to saving energy and combat climate change.
Glass Wool Manufacturing Process
The Manufacturing process of Glasswool is given below,
1. Batch
The main constitutes of Glasswool are sand, soda ash, limestone, and recycled glass; which are stored in silos. The process begins with weighing, mixing, and pouring the constituents into a furnace. (Lintel)
2. Melting
The mixed constituents are then melted in an electric gas furnace at a temperature exceeding 1,400°C.
3. Fiberizing
The liquid glass obtained from the furnace is later passed via a feeder to a fiberizing machine, where it is propelled through tiny holes with the help of a centrifugal spinner — creating the fibers. These fibers are sprayed with a binder and shaped into a blanket.
4. Forming
The blanket of fibers is passed through a curing oven, which is compressed to desired thickness.
5. Cutting
After obtaining the final thickness the blanket is then cut to the required width. Off-cuts obtained in cutting are recycled eventually to avoid wastage.
6. Packing
Before packing, the mats are rolled with the help of a rolling machine equipped at the end of the line. A stacking machine is provided for the boards.
7. Palletization
As per the necessity, the glass wool can be compressed up to ten times it is the volume for palletization. In total 36 rolls of glass obtained in the process could be packed onto a single pallet. (Soak Pit)
